When first designing my crate I wanted to have a crate that looked difficult to open or get into, so I thought about safety which immediately gave me the idea to make a safe/vault. However I didn't just want to have a normal safe, I wanted to make it look at least a little different from all the other ones. So I gave my safe some wheels.

However I still felt it could use a bit more style to make it look more cool. I wanted to capture the feeling of secrecy and vigilantes who were trying to break into this vault so I based the crate around the game "Persona 5". However I would later have to remove some details like the logo. I had different items near the crate like a knife and crowbar to make it seem as though someone had already tried breaking into the safe.

Next I used photoshop to get a good idea of the colour scheme, I didn't include the wheels since this was just a drawing to see which colours would fit the theme.

Before choosing my final design I wanted to try some other ideas for crates. My second idea was to have a futuristic-like box which opens like an flower blooming but also have the skin and texture of some sort of creature.

I was heavily inspired by typical alien eggs in media and games.

Once I had decided on my final design I drew it in photoshop to show how it should look when it is finished.

I next made my turnaround to prepare for modelling my crate in blender.

I did my first model a little different to test out how the animation will look, it didn't have all the details at first, for example the handle bar turning.
After getting used to the animation I next properly modelled my safe. In the new model I added the handle, the wheels and a new door which works better.

Then I completed the final animation and used light sources so it was more visible.
