Streets of rage is a beat em up game. Beat em up games involve moving across a normally 2D area while punching, kicking, throwing enemies to progress through the level. you can also collect items such as weapons or health items to help you proceed throughout the level. Each level has you going from left to right with arrows pointing where you need to go. Sometimes you will have to complete an objective before moving onto the next section of the level, for example a lot of enemies can show up and you aren't allowed passed till they have all been beaten. You can walk backwards to collect stuff but it isn't really intended.
