Things i have made for our group project. Everything in this blog is something I created or added to, basically everyway I contributed to the group project.
This is the final landscape I constructed for the scene.

Another view from below to show off the grass.

Dinosaur
When starting the dinosaur model I had to decide what kind of dinosaur I wanted mine to be. I spoke to my group and we came up with a few ideas but in the end we went with something that resembled a T-Rex. To start modelling I found a turnaround of a T-Rex looking Dinosaur. I used a mirror modifier to make the other side of the dinousaur the same.

As I continued to model I started to shift away from the look of a T-Rex and instread started to kind of make my own dinosaur, it still resembles a T-Rex but has a few differences like arms and spikes.

Since I am not the best at unwrapping I decided to send my model over to Jacob to unwrap.
Here is one of the first textures I made for the dinosaur in Substance.

Here is the texture in Blender.

To make the eye I used a sphere and added some textures to it. To add it to the Dinosaur I placed it inside and sculpted around the eye on both sides so the eye was more surrounded by the scales.

I then made a rig for the dinosaur. I had to research how dinosaurs move and how their bones move. The rig worked pretty well after some weight painting.

After some unfortunate events I lost the previous textures and unwrap which led me to try and make an unwrap by myself. I made a pretty good one but the only issue was its right arm had a part that didn't look right when applying the texture.

Once the Unwrap was complete again I made some new textures which I actually much prefer to my old one since this one looks more realistic.

Here are the finished textures in Blender. I also changed the eyes to have a yellow glow around the pupil which is also more realistic. So in the end, my mistakes in saving over the work led to a better textured dinosaur in the end.

After the dinosaur was modelled, textured and rigged I moved on to making the prehistoric landscape. I was in charge of making this scene but I had almost nothing to d with the modern scene apart from some critiquing on stuff like lighting and camera angles. I wanted the prehistoric ground to look quite dry, rough and deserted.

Next step was adding grass, first I needed to make one piece of grass which would be placed all over the land. My first design was pretty low poly and basic. The textures were quite bad up close but weren't noticable from far away so it didn't matter so much in the end. One issue I did have was that the grass was quite thick and not thin. I should have used a plane rather than a cube to model it.

I used a particle system and changed the hair to be the grass model. I did this by going to instance object and then selecting the grass model. I used randomizers to change the scale and rotation of each grass model. I also attempted to use a wind system to make the grass move in the wind however, for some reason the wind had no affect on the grass models at all. I asked my group for some help since some of them had experience with wind in Blender so I thought that they might be able to figure out whats wrong but in the end no one could solve this issue unfortunately so we went without wind in the final animation.

Here is another view of the first grass model on the land.

Eventually I decided to get rid of the old grass and make some new grass which ended up looking much better compared to the last model. I made it look more overgrown and curved. The biggest difference was the fact it was modelled from a plane rather than a cube since grass in real life is very thin.

One of my jobs was to design and make the prehistoric trees. I drew a lot of inspiration how trees looked in the prehistoric era but I drew even more inspiration from swamp trees and how their roots are shown above the ground. This shows a bigger difference from modern trees and trees from the past era.

To add some variety to the land, I tasked someone from the group to make another plant whether its a tree or a bush or shrubb just as long as it looked like it fit the scene well. Sam W ended up modelling this bush like plant and so I textured it.

Jacob had modelled a low poly volcano which I unwrapped and add some polys to it and then textured it. I am very happy with how this texture came out and how I have the sand fading into the rocky mountain.

This is the final scene that I put together, I animated all of this scene and placed each model where I wanted it.
